In a commendable act aimed at promoting awareness about eye and organ donation in society, the Kachhadia family donated the eyes and body of the late Ambaben Parsottambhai Kachhadia. This inspirational initiative was taken under the guidance of Nathabhai Gajera, a trustee of the Red Cross and Lok Drashti Eye Bank, and a member of Lions Club of Surat East.
Ambaben, originally from Bagdana, resided in Rajhans Tower, C-702, Mota Varachha, Surat. Following her demise, her body was donated to Kiran Medical College in Surat for academic research, while her eyes were donated to Lok Drashti Eye Bank to restore vision for the visually impaired.
This noble act is a living example of the mantra propagated by the organization Saksham (Samadrishti, Kshamata Vikas Evam Anusandhan Mandal), which encourages people to "donate blood while alive, and donate eyes, body, and organs after death." Notably, Ambaben's contribution marked the 1,789th body donation from Surat.
Her sons Ravjibhai, Shambhubhai, and Lajibhai Kachhadia, along with other family members, were present during the donation process. The eye donation was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Praful Shiroya and Dineshbhai Jogani. Dr. Shiroya and his organization, Lok Drashti Eye Bank, have so far received over 44,000 eye donations, successfully restoring vision to more than 75,000 individuals.
As per report, Dineshbhai Jogani, Vice President of Lok Drashti Eye Bank, urged the public to step forward and pledge for eye and body donation. He emphasized that such donations can not only bring light to those living in darkness but also provide valuable resources for medical students to become skilled doctors. The Kachhadia family’s compassionate gesture is a powerful message to society that even after death, one can continue to bring light into others’ lives.
