Delhi Police Directs E-Commerce and Social Media Platforms to Halt Online Sale of Firecrackers
New Delhi, July 11 – In a strict move to enforce the ongoing firecracker ban in the national capital, Delhi Police has directed all e-commerce and social media platforms to immediately stop the online sale of firecrackers. An official confirmed the development on Friday, stating that the directive follows earlier orders issued by the Delhi government and observations made by the Supreme Court.
The crackdown comes in line with the Delhi Government’s notification dated December 19, 2024, and the Supreme Court's May 6, 2025 remarks in the case of MC Mehta vs. Union of India and Others, which underscored the urgent need to curb air pollution caused by firecrackers.
As per agency report, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has sent a written advisory to all concerned online platforms, asking them to comply with the firecracker ban in Delhi without delay. Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Devesh Chandra Srivastava, stated that platforms have been instructed to remove all firecracker-related listings from their websites and disable purchase options for users residing in Delhi.
Furthermore, platforms have also been asked to publish clear public notices informing users about the ban on the sale and delivery of firecrackers in the city.
In addition to these measures, Delhi Police has issued separate advisories to banquet halls, wedding venues, hotels, guesthouses, and function spaces across the city, urging them to strictly adhere to the firecracker ban during events.
