Neeraj Chopra Wins Gold at Diamond League 2025 in Paris with 88.16m Throw

Paris, June 21 — India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold medal at the Diamond League 2025 in Paris with an impressive throw of 88.16 meters. The 27-year-old athlete stood atop the podium at the Stade Charléty on Saturday, defeating Germany’s Julian Weber and Brazil’s Luis Mauricio da Silva, who secured second and third places with throws of 87.88 meters and 86.62 meters respectively.

Following his victory, Chopra expressed satisfaction with his performance, particularly highlighting the strength of his run-up technique despite feeling that his overall form was slightly off. He noted that his body was leaning too far to the left and that his chest-based throw lacked precision, though the momentum and energy in his first attempt helped him dominate the event.

As per agency report, Chopra reflected on his journey in the Diamond League, recalling his debut at the same venue in 2017. He emphasized that winning again in Paris after seven to eight years carried special significance. His commitment to maintaining consistency across competitions remains central to his performance strategy, especially with major international events like the World Championships and Olympics demanding mental and technical resilience under pressure.

Looking ahead, Chopra reaffirmed his aim to breach the 90-meter mark in upcoming tournaments. He had previously crossed that milestone in the Doha leg of the Diamond League on May 16 and is determined to sustain that level of excellence.

Chopra also acknowledged the influence of legendary javelin thrower Jan Železný, under whose guidance he continues to train. He praised Železný’s coaching approach and positive energy, sharing that personalized tips from the Czech icon — such as modifying his crossover steps for better speed and control — have positively impacted his technique. Chopra added that while he still needs to refine certain technical aspects, having a mentor like Železný has been a major advantage.

Neeraj Chopra’s gold in Paris marks his first Diamond League title in two years and adds another milestone to his already illustrious career. With consistent performances and an eye on the 90-meter barrier, Chopra continues to cement his place among the world’s elite in javelin throwing.
