Donald Trump to Visit India for Upcoming Quad Summit Following 35-Minute Phone Call with PM Modi

New Delhi, June 18 – United States President Donald Trump has accepted an invitation to visit India for the upcoming Quad summit, following a 35-minute phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The development was confirmed by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who stated that the discussion between the two leaders covered a broad range of topics, including regional cooperation and security in the Indo-Pacific.

During the conversation, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the Quad’s strategic objectives. As per agency report, the leaders expressed mutual support for the group’s role in ensuring maritime security and maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific. The Quad comprises India, the United States, Australia, and Japan, and was formed with the aim of strengthening maritime collaboration and strategic stability in the region.

Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to President Trump to attend the next Quad Leaders’ Summit, which is scheduled to take place in India later this year. President Trump welcomed the invitation and conveyed his eagerness to visit India.

Foreign Secretary Misri noted that the two leaders were originally scheduled to meet in person during the recently held G7 Summit in Canada. However, due to President Trump’s early return to the United States, the meeting could not take place. In lieu of the missed meeting, the two leaders held a detailed phone conversation at President Trump’s request.

The dialogue also marked their first direct interaction since Operation Sindoor, India’s recent counter-terrorism response following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. During the call, Prime Minister Modi provided President Trump with an in-depth briefing on the operation. In response, President Trump conveyed his condolences for the lives lost in the Pahalgam attack and reiterated the United States’ solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism.

The upcoming Quad Summit is expected to focus on regional security, technological collaboration, and joint strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific, and President Trump’s visit to India will be seen as a significant move toward bolstering bilateral ties and multilateral coordination within the Quad framework.
