New Delhi, June 14 – The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday announced the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate courses (NEET-UG), with Mahesh Kumar from Rajasthan emerging as the national topper. He was followed by Utkarsh Avadhia from Madhya Pradesh in second place.

Out of the 22.09 lakh candidates who appeared for the highly competitive medical entrance exam this year, over 12.36 lakh qualified. However, this is a slight dip from last year when more than 13.15 lakh candidates had cleared the exam out of over 23.33 lakh test-takers.

Krishang Joshi from Maharashtra secured the third position, while Mrinal Kishore Jha from Delhi ranked fourth. Among female candidates, Delhi’s Avika Agrawal stood out, securing the fifth rank nationally and becoming the top-ranked girl in the country.

Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of qualified candidates with over 1.70 lakh, followed by Maharashtra with more than 1.25 lakh and Rajasthan with over 1.19 lakh successful candidates.

Conducted annually by the NTA, NEET-UG serves as the gateway for admission into undergraduate medical courses across the country. There are approximately 1,08,000 MBBS seats available nationwide, including around 56,000 in government colleges and 52,000 in private institutions.

In addition to MBBS, NEET scores are also used for admission to undergraduate courses in dentistry (BDS), Ayurveda (BAMS), Unani (BUMS), and Siddha (BSMS) medical streams.
