Modi Government Has Democratized Use of Technology Over 11 Years, Says Amit Shah
New Delhi, June 12 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday highlighted the transformative role of technology under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the government has successfully democratized the use of technology and harnessed its potential for business and economic development. As per agency report, Shah emphasized that these initiatives have positioned India among the world’s leading digital economies over the past 11 years.
Marking the completion of 11 years of the Modi government on June 9, Shah took to social media platform X to underscore the advancements made during this period. He noted that the digital revolution initiated by Prime Minister Modi has significantly reshaped key sectors such as healthcare, education, business, and commerce, deeply integrating technology into every aspect of society and the economy.
An official statement released on the occasion detailed India’s notable journey toward becoming a digitally empowered society. It highlighted the government’s efforts to bridge the urban-rural digital divide, ranging from extending internet connectivity to remote villages to revolutionizing public service delivery through digital platforms.
According to the statement, the contribution of the digital economy to the national income stood at 11.74 percent in 2022–23 and is projected to increase to 13.42 percent by 2024–25. This growth is being fueled by advancements in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and the strengthening of digital infrastructure.
Over the past 11 years, India has significantly expanded its mobile network and improved internet accessibility in rural areas. The government’s initiatives have focused on building a robust digital infrastructure and enhancing digital skills across the population, laying the groundwork for a technology-driven future.
The number of internet connections in India surged from 251.5 million in March 2014 to nearly 969.6 million by June 2024. Additionally, the total amount transferred through Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) crossed ₹44 lakh crore as of May 2025, showcasing the scale and impact of digital integration in governance.
The government reiterated its commitment to furthering India's digital journey, ensuring that technology continues to serve as the backbone of a modern and inclusive economy.
