Gold Scam Worth Rs 87 Lakh Uncovered in Surat’s Varachha Area

A major gold scam involving Rs 87 lakh has come to light in Surat’s Varachha area, where a local trader was deceived under the pretext of receiving gold at discounted rates through customs. The trader was lured into transferring the money via a fake angadia (traditional courier) firm, only to later realize he had been duped.

Following the discovery of the fraud, the victim lodged a formal complaint with the Varachha Police Station. As per agency report, the investigation into the case had earlier led to the arrest of ten individuals. In a recent development, the police have apprehended two more suspects and recovered over Rs 52 lakh from their possession.

According to the police, the scam was part of a well-orchestrated conspiracy. The perpetrators created a fictitious angadia firm to siphon off a large sum from the victim. Preliminary findings indicate that this incident is connected to a wider criminal network, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest other accomplices involved.

The case has been registered under sections related to fraud, criminal conspiracy, and forgery. Both the Crime Branch and the Cyber Cell have joined the investigation to uncover the full extent of the racket and bring all members of the gang to justice.

This incident has triggered concern among Surat’s trading community. Authorities have urged citizens and business owners to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of any financial dealings, especially those involving unknown entities.
