Gujarat Government Makes e-KYC Mandatory for Ration Card Holders by June 30; Postal Department Offers Free Doorstep Service

In a significant move aimed at strengthening the Digital India initiative and ensuring transparency in public distribution, the Gujarat government has mandated e-KYC completion for all ration card holders under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) by June 30, 2025. As per report, in collaboration with the Department of Posts, this initiative is now offering free doorstep e-KYC services, including mobile number updates in Aadhaar, to eligible beneficiaries across the state.

Postmaster General of Rajkot Region, Krishna Kumar Yadav, informed that this service has been launched under a key agreement between the Food and Civil Supplies Department of the Gujarat government and India Post. The goal is to ensure timely access to subsidized food grains for beneficiaries while enhancing transparency and efficiency in the distribution system.

To date, postal workers have completed e-KYC procedures for over two lakh ration card holders directly at their homes. The service is being offered through more than 8,800 rural and urban post offices across Gujarat. Postal staff are not only conducting door-to-door visits but are also operating at ration shops and community camps in coordination with district supply officers to extend the reach of the program.

In cases where a beneficiary’s mobile number is not linked to their Aadhaar, postal workers first update the number under Aadhaar services before proceeding with the e-KYC process. If direct contact with postal workers is not possible, beneficiaries can visit their nearest post office to avail the service.

This initiative has proven especially beneficial for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, the sick, and women, who often find it challenging to stand in long queues for such services. It reflects a commendable step towards digital governance and exemplifies the government's commitment to delivering services at citizens’ doorsteps.
