Mumbai, May 25 – Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has formally responded to a legal notice filed by actor-producer Akshay Kumar over his sudden exit from the upcoming film Hera Pheri 3. Rawal, known for his iconic role as Baburao Ganpatrao Apte in the franchise, had shocked fans and the industry alike when he decided to step away from the long-anticipated third installment.
The legal notice, sent by Kumar’s production company Cape of Good Films, seeks Rs. 25 crore in damages, claiming Rawal’s withdrawal caused significant disruption and financial loss. As per agency report, Rawal confirmed via a post on social media platform ‘X’ that his lawyer, Ameet Naik, has submitted a formal reply asserting his right to exit the project. He expressed confidence that the matter will be resolved once his position is understood.
Initially, Hera Pheri 3 was expected to reunite the original trio—Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, and Suniel Shetty—under the direction of Priyadarshan, who helmed the first film released in 2000. Fans had eagerly awaited the return of this beloved comedic ensemble after nearly two decades.
However, a lawyer representing Akshay Kumar’s banner emphasized that Rawal’s abrupt decision may carry “serious legal consequences.” Pooja Tidke, Joint Managing Partner at Parinam Law Associates, stated that significant financial commitments had already been made, including contracts with actors, crew, equipment vendors, and the completion of a 3.5-minute teaser shoot.
Tidke further revealed that Rawal had publicly expressed commitment to the film as recently as January through a social media post. She said the production team was blindsided by a notice from Rawal just days ago, stating his withdrawal from the project. The sudden turn of events has left the producers and collaborators scrambling for alternatives.
While Rawal’s legal response asserts his right to exit the film, the situation highlights growing complexities in high-stakes film productions where verbal assurances and early promotions can lead to legal disputes. For now, the future of Hera Pheri 3 remains uncertain, as fans await clarity on whether the original cast will reunite or if the franchise will have to forge a new path.
