Kosamba Railway Station Transformed Under Amrit Bharat Scheme with ₹7 Crore Redevelopment

Surat, May 21 – Indian Railways, often referred to as the lifeline of the nation, continues to reshape the country’s transport infrastructure with the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. As part of this initiative, over 1,300 railway stations across India are undergoing redevelopment to better reflect the cities they serve. Among them, Kosamba Railway Station in Surat district has now been unveiled in its newly transformed form.

The Kosamba station, originally built in 1860, stands as a significant junction on the Surat-Vadodara route and has long held historical importance. Now, with an investment of over ₹7 crore, it has taken a major step forward under the national revitalization plan. Once a crowded and modest transit point, the station now boasts an elegant and modern design, complete with a grand new entrance that enhances its visual appeal.

A spacious waiting hall and organized booking area have been developed to improve passenger flow and comfort, especially during peak hours. New amenities at the station include a general waiting room and a separate women’s waiting lounge, intricately designed floor tiling, low-height drinking water taps for the differently-abled, large parking zones, and wide pathways for both vehicles and pedestrians.

The station also features accessible toilets, informative signage, digital coach display boards for real-time coach identification, CCTV surveillance, high-mast lighting, modern toilets, ticket counters, and user-friendly ramps. These upgrades are aimed at making the station inclusive and efficient for all passengers, particularly for those with special needs.

Kosamba’s platforms are now equipped with shelters, coach indication systems, and digital information screens to assist commuters. Moreover, the station’s aesthetic has been enriched with elements that showcase Gujarat’s folk traditions, cultural heritage, and local storytelling.

This redevelopment reflects the broader vision inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transform Indian railway stations into symbols of progress and community identity. Kosamba is now not just a transit hub, but a representation of Surat’s evolving connectivity and culture.
