Surat’s Historic Utran Railway Station Revamped Under Amrit Bharat Scheme, Inauguration on May 27

Surat, May 20 – Utran Railway Station, a heritage landmark in Surat district, has undergone a major transformation with an investment of ₹8 crore under the Western Railway’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the renovated station on May 27 during an event at Dahod, where he will also dedicate a newly manufactured locomotive from the Dahod Locomotive Unit to the nation.

Located just five kilometers from Surat’s main railway station, Utran is steeped in history. Established in 1890 along the banks of the Tapi River, it once served as a key node on the BB&CI Railway’s first line between Utran and Ankleshwar. As per agency report, the recent redevelopment has preserved its vintage charm while equipping it with modern amenities for an enhanced passenger experience.

The station now features a new waiting room, accessible toilet blocks, GI sheet-covered platforms, tactile tiles for the visually impaired, low-height drinking water taps, and a newly constructed booking office. A major addition is the pedestrian subway connecting the eastern and western sides of the station to the platforms, greatly improving accessibility.

To ensure passenger safety, CCTV surveillance has been installed, and adequate parking facilities have been provided. The entire station premises have been revamped to offer a clean, organized, and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Following similar upgrades at major stations like Udhna, Bhestan, and Surat, the modernization of Utran station marks another milestone in Surat’s evolving railway infrastructure. This development not only enhances commuter convenience but also breathes new life into the station’s historical legacy.

Such initiatives by Indian Railways are seen as important strides towards improving passenger services and preserving heritage, all while aligning with the broader vision of a modern and efficient railway network.
