Overcrowded Surat City Buses Pose Safety Risks for Passengers
Calls to Increase Bus Services During Peak Hours Grow Louder
Surat: A recent viral video has highlighted the dangerous conditions faced by passengers, particularly students, traveling on Surat's city buses. With the municipality promoting public transport as a way to protect the environment, many residents have been opting for the city bus service over rickshaws and private vehicles. However, due to inadequate bus services on certain routes, passengers are often forced to travel while hanging from the doors, posing significant safety risks.
The video, showing students clinging to the open door of a Surat Municipal Corporation city bus on New Civil Road, has gone viral on social media. The bus is packed with passengers, with some students and other individuals seen hanging from the doors as the vehicle travels at full speed.
Despite the high occupancy of these buses, the Surat Municipal City Bus is reportedly operating at a loss, raising questions about the municipality's management of the service. In response to these concerns, local residents are demanding an increase in the number of city buses during rush hour to accommodate the growing demand for public transport.
If the municipal administration fails to increase the number of buses during peak hours, the dangerous practice of passengers hanging from doors may continue, putting lives at risk.
