Miss World 2025 Contestants Offer Prayers at Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, Explore Telangana's Cultural Heritage

Hyderabad, May 16 – Participants of the Miss World 2025 competition visited the revered Lakshmi Narasimha Temple in Yadagirigutta near Hyderabad on Thursday, where they offered prayers and took part in traditional rituals. The visit was part of a broader cultural immersion experience planned for the international contestants during their stay in Telangana.

As per agency report, a group of contestants from nine countries dressed in traditional Indian saris visited the temple, participated in the ‘Deepaaradhana’ (traditional lamp-lighting ritual), and received blessings from the temple priests after offering prayers to the main deity. The visit was marked by a celebration of local traditions and heritage, with the contestants also joining local women in performing the traditional ‘Kolaatam’ dance with sticks, adding to the vibrant cultural exchange.

Another highlight of the day was the visit by 25 contestants from Africa to Pochampally village, internationally renowned for its handwoven ikat sarees. Recognized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as one of the ‘Best Tourism Villages’ globally, Pochampally gave the contestants a firsthand look into the intricate art of ikat weaving. Some participants even tried their hand at spinning yarn using traditional charkhas (spinning wheels), expressing admiration for the skill and craftsmanship of local artisans.

At a village amphitheatre, the contestants witnessed a unique fashion show showcasing ikat and handloom sarees worn by Indian women. The show drew appreciation from the guests, who praised the elegance and cultural depth of Indian textiles.

The Telangana government has drawn up a strategic plan to utilize the global spotlight of the Miss World pageant to promote the state as a premier tourism destination, enhance its international image, and attract future investment. During their visit, the contestants will continue to explore iconic sites across the state, gaining a deeper understanding of its cultural and historical richness.

Earlier this week, the contestants participated in a heritage walk at the iconic Charminar on May 13 and visited the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ramappa Temple in Mulugu district on May 14.

The Miss World 2025 competition, which commenced with a grand ceremony in Hyderabad on May 10, will continue through May 31.
