Women Empowerment Initiative in Vadodara Assists Over 1,700 Victims Through Police-Based Support Centres

Vadodara – Under a commendable initiative by the Women and Child Development Department of the Gujarat government, hundreds of women in Vadodara district are receiving critical support to combat domestic violence, social inequality, gender discrimination, and other hardships. A total of 1,774 women have benefited from police station-based Women Support Centres through counseling, legal aid, and institutional assistance.

These support centres are housed within local police stations and assist women with family disputes, harassment, and other challenges. When required, cases are formally registered and legal support—including lawyers and court representation—is provided in coordination with the District Legal Services Authority and the Dowry Prohibition and Protection Officer.

According to available data, 506 women received assistance in 2022–23, 497 in 2023–24, and 771 between January 2024 and May 2025.

Currently, seven police stations host active women support centres: Bapod, Karelibaug, Makarpura, Gorwa, Padra, Karjan, and Dabhoi. To extend the initiative to rural areas, two new centres were opened in Dabhoi and Karjan during 2024–25, while another has been approved for the Savli police station.

Beyond legal and psychological assistance, these centres empower women to make informed decisions about their futures. When necessary, counselling is extended to their families, and guidance is provided to take action in accordance with the woman’s chosen course.

This initiative is a significant step toward enhancing women's safety, autonomy, and dignity, positioning Vadodara as a model district for women's rights and social support in Gujarat.
