Surat: Diamond Burse may now be inaugurated in May
SDB management faces criticism for collecting maintenance fees before opening
After several delays, the opening of the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB), the world's largest commercial building, has been pushed to May 2023. The SDB management has been working to complete the remaining processes as quickly as possible. The bourse has 4,500 members, who have been paying maintenance fees since January. Some members have expressed their frustration that the maintenance fees have started even though the bourse is not yet operational. However, the management has explained that maintaining the facilities and paying employee salaries is crucial to running the bourse on a no-profit, no-loss basis.
The SDB's official stated that the project is now complete, and the ground floor area is being leased out to various banks. All preliminary customs clearances have been achieved, and two safes have been constructed. The registration of members will begin soon, and the bourse will open as soon as all the facilities are commissioned.
The SDB will have state-of-the-art amenities, including security, cleanliness, maintenance, and other facilities that will be provided for the members. The bourse aims to become the most advanced diamond trading hub, boosting Surat's position as a major diamond hub in India.
