Thirteen Killed, Fourteen Injured in Road Accident in Chhattisgarh's Raipur District

Raipur, May 12 — Thirteen people, including nine women and four children, were killed and fourteen others injured in a tragic road accident that occurred late Sunday night in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh. As per agency report, the incident took place near Saragaon village in the Khairora police station limits when a trailer collided with a goods vehicle carrying more than thirty people returning from a family event.

According to local police, the victims were residents of Chatoud village in the Abhanpur police station area. They had attended a family function in Bana-Bansari village and were traveling back in a goods vehicle when the accident happened. The vehicle reportedly lost control and collided with an oncoming trailer on the Balodabazar-Raipur road near Bangoli-Saragaon, leading to a chain reaction in which it struck another vehicle as well.

Senior Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh stated that the impact caused several passengers to be thrown out of the vehicle onto the road. Emergency services were dispatched to the site upon receiving the information, and police personnel facilitated the immediate transfer of the injured to Raipur's Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital.

Raipur District Collector Gaurav Singh confirmed that thirteen people died in the crash and that the district administration had promptly responded to the scene. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 5 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 to each injured person. The Chief Minister also assured that the government stands in solidarity with the affected families and has directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.

Additionally, he instructed the district administration to continuously monitor relief and rescue operations and to provide all necessary support to the victims’ families.
