PM Modi Directs Armed Forces: Respond with Full Force if Fired Upon by Pakistan, Say Government Sources

New Delhi, May 11 — Amid a fragile ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued clear instructions to the Indian armed forces that any provocation by Pakistan must be met with a stronger response. Government sources revealed on Sunday that Modi stated, “If they fire bullets, we will respond with shells.”

As per agency report, the Indian leadership has clarified that Operation Sindoor, which involved targeted strikes on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), is not over yet. The government intends to maintain a tough stance against cross-border terrorism and has warned that Pakistan will now have to pay a heavier price for supporting terror activities.

The sources further emphasized that Pakistan should not expect selective cooperation in bilateral matters while continuing to foster terrorism. On the subject of Jammu and Kashmir, India reiterated that it will not entertain any proposals for international mediation. The only point open for discussion, they maintained, is Pakistan’s illegal occupation of parts of Kashmir.

A significant escalation at the border had led to intense military confrontations over four days. On Saturday evening, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that both nations had agreed to halt all ground, air, and maritime hostilities with immediate effect. The announcement followed a statement by US President Donald Trump, who claimed that American mediation had helped both countries reach a "complete and immediate ceasefire."

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the development, stating that both governments had agreed to begin broader discussions at a neutral location.

However, Indian government sources clarified on Sunday that India remains firm on its core stance—no further dialogue with Pakistan beyond the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level, and no dilution in policy regarding Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. They reiterated that India’s firm position since the retaliatory strikes on May 7 has been that any Pakistani aggression will be met with even stronger force.

The sources also stated that India had informed its international partners shortly after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that it would be launching targeted strikes on terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan. Following the strikes, they said, India responded firmly to all Pakistani actions, signaling a decisive shift in India’s counter-terrorism strategy.

Additionally, they confirmed that the Indus Waters Treaty remains suspended until further notice, citing Pakistan’s continued support for terrorism as the reason.
