India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire from 5 PM Today: MEA Confirms

New Delhi, May 10 – Amid days of heightened military tensions, India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire effective from 5 PM on Saturday, covering land, air, and sea operations. The announcement was made by the Ministry of External Affairs following a direct conversation between the two countries' Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs).

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, addressing a press briefing in New Delhi, confirmed that the Pakistani DGMO reached out to the Indian DGMO via telephone at 3:35 PM today. During the call, both sides agreed to halt all forms of cross-border hostilities starting this evening.

According to Misri, both militaries have been instructed to implement the agreement and cease all ground, aerial, and maritime actions. A follow-up conversation between the DGMOs has been scheduled for 12 noon on May 12 to review the situation and ensure adherence.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also shared the development via social media platform X, stating, “India and Pakistan have reached an understanding today to halt firing and military operations. India remains firm in its stance against all forms of terrorism and will continue to uphold that position.”

The ceasefire comes after a turbulent week marked by India’s Operation Sindoor in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians. Pakistan responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Indian military and civilian areas, all of which India claims to have effectively neutralized.

With this ceasefire in place, both nations have signaled a temporary pause in hostilities, even as the diplomatic and security establishments continue to monitor the situation closely.
