In a daring heist, a thief stole a 148-carat diamond worth Rs 48.86 lakh from Sant Ashish diamond factory in Varachha Mohan Nagar Society, Surat. The entire incident was captured in the CCTV footage installed in the factory. The thief entered the factory early in the morning with a handkerchief tied around his mouth and fled with the processed diamond while ignoring the presence of other artisans.
After the factory owner reported the theft, the police started investigating the case and formed separate teams for the investigation. ACP PK Patel said that the investigation is going on after registering a case based on the complaint of the owner of the factory. In the CCTV footage, a person tied a handkerchief in his mouth, entered the account, stole the diamonds, and fled.
The thief remains unidentified, and the police are still trying to track him down. The incident has once again highlighted the need for better security measures in the diamond industry, especially in Surat, where it is a major source of livelihood.
