Bollywood Races to Register Film Titles Based on 'Operation Sindoor' Amid Surge in Patriotism

Mumbai, May 9 – In the wake of India’s high-impact missile strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’ against terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the Hindi film industry has seen a flurry of activity, with over 30 applications filed in just two days for movie titles based on the military operation. Producers across Bollywood are rushing to secure titles such as Operation Sindoor, Mission Sindoor, and Sindoor: The Revenge.

As per agency report, the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA), Indian Film and Television Producers Council (IFTPC), and Western India Film Producers Association (WIFPA) have collectively received a surge of applications linked to the theme. The operation, which was India’s retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, targeted nine terror bases, including Jaish-e-Mohammed’s stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke.

IMPPA secretary Anil Nagrath confirmed the trend, stating that over 30 titles have already been applied for, and the count may soon reach 50 or 60. Most producers are competing for names like Operation Sindoor and Mission Sindoor. He clarified that while applicants may request multiple titles, priority is given to the first to file.

For many filmmakers, the operation has become a symbol of national pride and heroism—an ideal subject for a compelling patriotic drama. Titles currently being sought include Hindustan Ka Sindoor, Mission Operation Sindoor, and Sindoor Ka Badla. Several producers have also applied for titles centered on the Pahalgam attack itself, such as Pahalgam: The Terror Attack and Pahalgam Attack.

Industry insiders revealed that prominent figures such as actor Suniel Shetty, director Madhur Bhandarkar, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, and producer Ashoke Pandit are among those exploring film projects around the theme. Production house T-Series is also reported to have submitted title applications.

Director Aditya Dhar, who helmed the 2019 hit Uri: The Surgical Strike, based on India’s 2016 response to the Uri terror attack, is believed to be evaluating similar possibilities with Operation Sindoor as inspiration.

With national sentiment running high, Bollywood’s swift response to turn real-life military events into cinematic narratives reflects the industry's longstanding connection to themes of valor, sacrifice, and patriotism.
