Pandya and Nehra Fined for IPL Code of Conduct Breaches

Mumbai, May 7, 2025 — Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya and Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra have been fined for breaching the Indian Premier League's (IPL) Code of Conduct during a rain-affected match that saw Gujarat Titans defeat Mumbai Indians by three wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

As per an official IPL statement, Pandya was penalized for his team’s slow over-rate, marking Mumbai Indians' second such offence of the season. The captain has been fined ₹24 lakh, while the rest of the playing eleven and substitute players have each been fined ₹6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is lesser.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra has been fined 25 percent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. Although the statement did not specify the exact nature of Nehra’s offense, he was visibly agitated during frequent rain interruptions and was seen repeatedly engaging with the on-field umpires.

Nehra admitted to committing a Level 1 offence, categorized under actions contrary to the spirit of the game. By accepting the sanction, the matter has been resolved without a formal hearing.

The incidents occurred during a high-stakes encounter that was disrupted multiple times due to weather, adding to tensions on the field.
