Home Ministry Directs States to Conduct Mock Drills Amid Heightened Tensions Following Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi, May 5 – In the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam and growing tensions with Pakistan, the Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed several Indian states to conduct comprehensive mock drills on May 7. As per agency report, official sources confirmed on Monday that the initiative aims to ensure preparedness for any potential attacks and to strengthen civil defense mechanisms.

The mock drills will involve a range of security measures, including the operation of air raid sirens and public training sessions on how civilians should respond in the event of an emergency. Authorities have been advised to rehearse blackout procedures in case of air strikes, enhance the security of critical infrastructure and installations, and update evacuation protocols to be executed during emergencies.

This directive comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds a series of high-level meetings with top defense officials to deliberate India's strategic response to the Pahalgam attack that occurred on April 22. The attack claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of whom were tourists, prompting a national outcry and intensified focus on security preparedness.

The Prime Minister has vowed to pursue the perpetrators and conspirators of the attack to the furthest corners of the world and ensure that they face punishment far harsher than they could imagine. The planned mock drills are part of a broader set of measures being implemented nationwide to reinforce security and public awareness amid escalating regional tensions.
