Gujarat Relieved from Scorching Heat as Unseasonal Rainfall Brings Cool Relief; More Showers Likely Over Next Five Days
Several parts of Gujarat experienced unseasonal rainfall on Sunday, offering much-needed respite from the searing summer heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), more showers are expected across the state over the next five days, with a potential drop of three to five degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures.
As per agency report, while the rainfall brought temporary relief for residents, it also caused damage to standing and harvested crops in open fields, particularly in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, and Gandhinagar districts.
The IMD noted that scattered rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning was recorded in various regions of Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, and Mehsana districts. Its latest bulletin forecasted light to moderate rain with thunder across many areas of Gujarat over the coming days, with isolated heavy rainfall expected until May 6 and very heavy rainfall anticipated on May 7 and 8.
The department stated that due to these weather patterns, the region could see a significant drop in maximum temperatures. Ahmedabad’s maximum temperature, for instance, is expected to decrease from the current 39 degrees Celsius to around 35–36 degrees Celsius over the next week, with the minimum temperature hovering near 25 degrees Celsius.
Similarly, temperatures in Vadodara, currently above 40 degrees Celsius, are likely to fall to about 35–36 degrees Celsius. The IMD also warned of heavy rain in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Narmada, and Surat districts on May 7, with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms expected in most districts starting Monday.
Additionally, the IMD cautioned about high sea waves and strong winds reaching speeds of 50 to 55 kmph along the northwest Arabian Sea near the Gujarat coast, urging caution for coastal regions.
