Over 1,280 Kg of Beef Seized from Train in Vadodara; Two Booked

Police in Gujarat have seized 1,283 kilograms of beef from the parcel van of the Golden Temple Express at Vadodara railway station. The seizure took place on Wednesday evening and was confirmed to be beef following forensic testing, as per agency report. The consignment was being transported from Amritsar in Punjab to Mumbai.

According to Saroj Kumari, Superintendent of Police, Western Railway, Vadodara, the meat was packed into 16 parcels. Once samples were tested at the Surat forensic laboratory and confirmed as beef, an FIR was filed on Friday evening against two individuals – Vijay Singh, the sender, and Jafar Shabbir, the intended recipient.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with offenses related to the killing, poisoning, or maiming of animals. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend both accused.

Vadodara Railway Police had received a tip-off regarding the transportation of prohibited meat via train. Following the seizure, official samples were forwarded to the Surat Forensic Science Laboratory, which confirmed that the confiscated substance was indeed beef.
