Shakti Dubey Tops Civil Services Examination with 51.5 Percent Marks

New Delhi, April 26 – Shakti Dubey, a postgraduate student from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), has secured the top rank in the Civil Services Examination by scoring 51.5 percent marks, according to the marksheet released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Dubey, 28, scored a total of 1,043 marks — 843 in the written examination and 200 in the interview — clearing the prestigious exam in her fifth attempt with political science and international relations as her optional subjects.

The merit list for the Civil Services Examination is prepared based on a total of 2,025 marks, comprising 1,750 marks for the written examination and 275 marks for the interview. As per agency report, Harshita Goyal secured the second position with a total of 1,038 marks (51.28 percent), scoring 851 marks in the written examination and 187 in the interview. Goyal, 24, holds a postgraduate degree in Chartered Accountancy and a bachelor's degree in commerce from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda. She hails from Haryana and cleared the examination in her third attempt, also with political science and international relations as her optional subjects.

Dongre Archit Parag and Shah Margi Chirag secured the third and fourth positions respectively. Parag scored 1,038 marks (848 in the written examination and 190 in the interview) while Chirag scored 1,035 marks (825 in the written and 210 in the interview), resulting in percentage scores of 51.28 and 51.11, respectively. Parag, 26, holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) and cleared the exam on his third attempt. Chirag, also 26, graduated in Computer Engineering from Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad, and succeeded in his fifth attempt.

Delhi’s Akash Garg secured the fifth position with 1,032 marks (831 in the written examination and 201 in the interview), achieving a score of 50.96 percent. Garg, 24, cleared the exam in his second attempt, choosing sociology as his optional subject. He holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi.

This year, 1,009 candidates — 725 men and 284 women — successfully cleared the Civil Services Examination, the results of which were announced earlier this week. The UPSC conducts the examination annually in three stages — Preliminary, Mains, and Personality Test (Interview) — to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central services.

The preliminary examination consists of two objective-type papers carrying 200 marks each. In 2024, the preliminary exam was conducted on June 16, with 9,92,599 candidates applying and 5,83,213 appearing for it. Out of them, 14,627 qualified for the written (mains) examination held in September 2024, and 2,845 candidates cleared the mains to appear for the personality test conducted between January 7 and April 17, 2025.

Among the successful candidates, 335 are from the general category, 109 from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), 318 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 160 from Scheduled Castes (SC), and 87 from Scheduled Tribes (ST).

Last year, Aditya Srivastava had topped the Civil Services Examination 2023 with a score of 54.27 percent, securing 1,099 marks — 899 in the mains and 200 in the interview.
