Partial Collapse of Residential Building in Vadodara; No Casualties Reported
Vadodara, April 21 – A three-storey residential building under the Gujarat Housing Board in Vadodara partially collapsed late Sunday night, prompting a swift rescue operation. As per agency report, authorities confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident.
The incident occurred around 11 PM at the Suryakiran building, located in the Laxmipura police station area. The building comprised six flats, and nearly half of its structure, including the ground, first, and second floors, crumbled during the collapse. Fortunately, residents were evacuated in time.
According to Chief Fire Officer Manoj Patil, a rescue operation was carried out for nearly four hours to ensure no individuals were trapped beneath the debris. Additional Commissioner of Police Leena Patil stated that the families residing on the upper floors managed to exit safely before the structure gave way.
Concerns initially arose regarding the possibility of construction workers being trapped, as repair work was underway on the ground floor. However, the contractor confirmed that all workers had vacated the premises prior to the incident.
Fire and police officials used bulldozers during the operation to clear debris and confirm that no one was buried underneath. Manoj Patil reaffirmed that the prolonged operation ensured the safety of all occupants and no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Authorities are likely to conduct further inspections to assess the structural stability of nearby buildings and investigate the cause of the collapse.
