New Delhi, April 20 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with US Vice President J.D. Vance on Monday to discuss key issues including trade, tariffs, regional security, and strengthening bilateral ties. The meeting will be followed by an official dinner hosted by Modi in honor of Vance, his Indian-origin wife Usha, and their children.
As per agency report, Vice President Vance, accompanied by his wife Usha and their three children Ivan, Vivek, and Mirabel, will arrive at Palam Airbase at 10 AM on Monday for a four-day visit to India. This marks Vance's first trip to the country, coming shortly after US President Donald Trump temporarily suspended a wide-ranging tariff policy affecting around 60 nations, including India.
India and the US are currently engaged in negotiations to finalize a bilateral trade agreement, expected to cover issues such as market access and tariff reductions.
Shortly after his arrival in Delhi, Vance and his family will visit the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple. They are also expected to explore a handicrafts shopping complex that showcases traditional Indian goods. A senior Cabinet minister from the Indian government will welcome Vance upon his arrival.
In addition to Delhi, the Vice President and his family will also travel to Jaipur and Agra. The delegation is likely to include at least five senior US officials from the Departments of Defense and State.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to formally receive Vance and his family at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, at 6:30 PM on Monday. The meeting will include discussions on the proposed trade agreement and broader bilateral cooperation.
Key Indian officials expected to attend the talks include External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra.
Following the meeting, Modi will host a formal dinner for Vance and the accompanying US delegation. The US Vice President and his family will be staying at the ITC Maurya Sheraton Hotel in New Delhi during their time in the capital.
Later that night, the Vance family will depart for Jaipur. On April 22, they are scheduled to visit the historic Amber Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Vice President Vance will also address a gathering at the Rajasthan International Centre, where he is expected to speak on the broader dynamics of India-US relations under the Trump administration. The event will be attended by diplomats, foreign policy experts, Indian government officials, and academics.
The following day, April 23, the Vice President and his family are likely to visit Agra to tour the Taj Mahal and Shilpgram, an open-air crafts emporium showcasing traditional Indian artistry. They will return to Jaipur later that day and depart for the United States on April 24.
During their stay in Jaipur, the Vance family will be accommodated at the luxurious Rambagh Palace, a heritage hotel that was once a royal guesthouse. Vance is arriving in Delhi following a visit to Italy.
