Over 54,000 Children to Receive First-Round Admissions Under RTE in Gujarat

Ahmedabad - The first round of admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2023-24 will see 54,903 children enrolled in private schools across Gujarat. Out of the 68,135 valid applications received from families in economically disadvantaged communities, 14,532 were rejected due to incomplete documentation or other reasons, while 15,834 applicants chose to withdraw their applications.

The RTE Act mandates that 25% of seats in the first class of private schools within the state be reserved for children from weaker and underprivileged sections of society. This year, the state's education department received a total of 98,501 applications for enrollment under RTE, with 82,820 seats available in 9,854 private primary schools across various mediums.

Deputy Director of Education for Gujarat revealed that the first-round admissions will be granted based on students' and schools' preferences within a 6 km radius. With 27,917 seats left vacant after the first round of allocations, parents have been notified via SMS and must enroll their children at the designated schools by May 13.
