22nd Successful Organ Donation in Surat Gives New Life to Six People

Surat: In a remarkable act of generosity and human spirit, the 22nd successful organ donation in Surat was carried out under the coordination of Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation. The family of 57-year-old Krishnaben Hasmukhbhai Patel, declared brain dead at Diamond Hospital, consented to donate her hands, kidneys, liver, and eyes, offering a second chance at life to six individuals.

Krishnaben, originally from Kharsali village in Amreli and a resident of Pasodara in Surat, was found unconscious in her room on the morning of April 11, 2025. She was rushed to Diamond Hospital in Chikuwadi, where doctors diagnosed her with a brain hemorrhage. Despite surgical intervention, her condition did not improve, and she was declared brain dead.

Upon confirmation of brain death, doctors from Diamond Hospital contacted Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation. The foundation’s team promptly met with Krishnaben’s family. Her husband Hasmukhbhai, a sewing machine operator, and their son Parth agreed to the donation after understanding its life-saving impact. The family shared that Krishnaben’s father-in-law, Ghanshyambhai Patel, was a follower of Gandhian values and was always ready to help others—a legacy they wished to carry forward.

The organ donation process was carried out in coordination with the Gujarat government's SOTTO and NOTTO, along with Diamond Hospital and Jeevandeep Foundation. The donated liver and both kidneys were accepted by Zydus Hospital in Ahmedabad, the hands were transported to Gleneagles Hospital in Chennai, and the corneas were received by Dr. Praful Shiroya at Lokdrashti Eye Bank in Surat.

Key contributors to the process included Jeevandeep Foundation founder P.M. Gondaliya, Dr. Nilesh Kachhadia, and Vipul Tadaviya. Diamond Hospital chairman C.P. Vanani, trustee Dineshbhai Navadia, Mavjibhai Mawani, medical superintendent Dr. Haresh Pagda, and hospital staff provided essential support.

To facilitate timely organ delivery, Surat Police arranged two green corridors from Diamond Hospital to Surat Airport. As per agency report, with this successful effort, Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation has now facilitated 22 organ donations in Surat, giving many patients a renewed lease on life.
