Three Killed, Two Injured as Municipal Bus Rams into Vehicles and Pedestrians in Rajkot

Rajkot: A speeding electric city bus operated by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) crashed into multiple vehicles and pedestrians at a busy traffic signal on Wednesday, resulting in the death of three people and injuries to two others, as per agency report.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at the Indira Circle junction, a high-traffic area in the city. CCTV footage from the scene showed the electric bus failing to stop at the signal and ramming into two-wheelers, cars, and people waiting to cross the road.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-2) Jagdish Bangarva confirmed that the bus hit several vehicles and pedestrians at the intersection, leading to the fatal casualties. Gandhi Gram Police Station Inspector Sejal Meghani stated that immediate rescue operations were launched following the incident.

The crash led to public outrage, with an angry crowd vandalizing the bus after it came to a halt a short distance from the accident site. Police had to resort to a baton charge to disperse the agitated crowd and restore order.

Authorities have taken the bus driver into custody, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
