Infant Buried Alive in Gujarat: Police Arrest Couple After 25-Day Investigation
Rajkot: In a heart-wrenching and disturbing incident, a couple accused of burying their four-day-old infant daughter alive in Gujarat’s Dhunda village in Tankara taluka has been arrested by police after an intensive 25-day investigation. The case came to light on March 19 when a passerby heard a baby crying near the village and, with the help of locals, discovered the newborn buried alive. The baby girl was rescued and rushed to Morbi Government Hospital.
According to officials, the initial lead in the investigation came from the infant’s clothing, which bore the name of the Bhabor Health Center in Banaskantha. A case was initially registered against an unidentified woman at the Tankara Police Station, and the Bhabor Health Center was contacted for further details. However, no information about the parents was immediately found.
The case was treated with utmost seriousness, and the Morbi Crime Branch joined the investigation. Police examined around 80 CCTV camera recordings, traced mobile locations, and tracked suspicious mobile IDs, eventually identifying the accused as Ramesh Premji Thakor and Daksha Ramesh Thakor from Bhabor village in Banaskantha.
Despite multiple attempts by the couple to evade arrest by frequently changing SIM cards, the police managed to track them down and apprehended them near a bridge in Mitana village. During interrogation, the couple confessed to the crime.
As per media report, the investigation revealed that the couple had been experiencing domestic disputes. Daksha became pregnant during this period, which led Ramesh to doubt the paternity of the child. He reportedly told his wife that she could return home only if the child was not in the picture. Consequently, the two conspired to bury their newborn daughter alive shortly after her birth at Bhabor Health Center. They travelled to the outskirts of Morbi and committed the act near Tankara.
Both individuals are now in police custody and further questioning is underway. The incident has shocked the local community, prompting both outrage and deep sorrow. It raises serious questions about how domestic tensions and mistrust can escalate to such inhumane actions, costing an innocent life its right to existence.
