Coast Guard and Gujarat ATS Seize Narcotics Worth Rs 1,800 Crore in Arabian Sea

Ahmedabad, April 14, 2025 – In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Indian Coast Guard and the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat jointly intercepted and seized narcotics valued at approximately Rs 1,800 crore in the Arabian Sea, as per agency report. The seized consignment, weighing over 300 kilograms and suspected to be methamphetamine, was dumped into the sea by traffickers who managed to flee toward the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

According to an official release by the Coast Guard, the contraband was retrieved during a coordinated operation conducted on the night of April 12 and 13. The Indian Coast Guard deployed a vessel from the western sector following intelligence inputs received from Gujarat ATS regarding a suspicious boat near the IMBL in offshore Gujarat waters.

During the night operation, the Coast Guard vessel identified the suspicious boat despite challenging visibility. Upon realizing the presence of Indian forces, the traffickers aboard the vessel threw the narcotics into the sea and escaped toward the IMBL. In response, the Coast Guard deployed smaller sea boats to retrieve the dumped consignment after a thorough night search.

The seized substance is believed to be methamphetamine and has been handed over to the ATS for further investigation. The operation underlines the strategic coordination between maritime security forces and anti-terror units, which has led to the successful interception of several such drug smuggling attempts in recent years.

The recovered narcotics have been brought to Porbandar by the Coast Guard vessel, where detailed analysis and procedural investigation are now underway. This seizure marks the 13th successful joint operation between the Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat ATS, reinforcing their commitment to national security and anti-narcotics enforcement.
