Karun Nair Says He Was Mentally Prepared for IPL Comeback, Just Needed an Opportunity

New Delhi, April 14, 2025 – Karun Nair, who marked his return to the Indian Premier League after two seasons with a blistering half-century for Delhi Capitals, stated that he was mentally prepared and only waiting for the right opportunity to prove himself. Despite his outstanding 89-run knock off 40 balls, Delhi fell short by 12 runs while chasing a steep target of 206.

Nair, known for his triple century in Test cricket, played a pivotal role at the top of the order, taking on one of the tournament's most lethal bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah, with two towering sixes in a single over. His fluent innings was a reflection of his form in domestic cricket, where he scored 1,870 runs across formats for Vidarbha in the previous season.

Speaking to the media after the match, Nair said that having previously played in the IPL gave him the confidence to perform at this level. He emphasized that he was mentally ready and only needed a few deliveries to find his rhythm.

Nair noted that during the powerplay, he focused on playing conventional shots and giving himself time before accelerating, a strategy that worked well despite the team falling short. He also acknowledged the disappointment of losing despite his personal performance, saying the win would have made the effort more satisfying.

Even though he didn’t get a chance to play in Delhi’s first four matches this season, Nair revealed that he stayed prepared, especially after learning that Faf du Plessis would be unavailable for the game. He was confident in his ability and readiness to step up when called upon.

As per agency report, Karun Nair’s return to form is a promising sign for Delhi Capitals as the tournament progresses, and his recent performance may solidify his place in the playing XI for the upcoming matches.
