Ahmedabad’s Lagnia Hanuman Temple Becomes Sanctuary for Lovers Seeking Marriage
Ahmedabad, April 12, 2025 — In the heart of Maninagar, a locality in Gujarat's cultural capital Ahmedabad, the Lagnia Hanuman Temple has emerged as an unusual haven for couples in love. With over 20,000 couples having tied the knot within its premises, the temple has become a beacon of hope for those who seek to solemnize their relationships without familial or societal approval.
As per media reports, the temple is not only a site of religious devotion but also plays a vital role in uniting lovers who wish to break away from traditional constraints. The name ‘Lagnia’ itself is derived from the word ‘Lagna’, meaning marriage, reflecting the temple’s purpose. For the past 15 years, it has welcomed couples looking to formalize their bond in a simple and meaningful way.
The temple’s long-time priest, Heerabai Jaguji, has been conducting wedding rituals since the aftermath of the 2001 Gujarat earthquake. He shared that the temple remains open 24 hours, and there have been instances where weddings were conducted as late as 3 a.m. The temple offers all essential wedding amenities, including photography and even on-site marriage registration. Despite the local court relocating, the number of couples arriving at the temple continues to rise.
This temple has also proven to be a blessing for those who cannot afford lavish ceremonies. One groom, Hardik Panchal, expressed his satisfaction, stating that his faith in Hanuman and the simplicity of the ceremony brought him immense happiness.
The temple gains even more prominence during Hanuman Jayanti, a festival celebrated with great fervor across Gujarat. On this occasion, devotees gather in large numbers for Hanuman Chalisa recitations and special aarti ceremonies. In some regions, decorative swings are set up in honor of Lord Hanuman, symbolizing his energetic and powerful nature.
More than a religious site, the Lagnia Hanuman Temple stands today as a symbol of love, courage, and unity. By providing a sacred space for those seeking to begin a new chapter together, it transcends societal barriers and offers couples a chance to start anew. It is indeed a unique temple steering the boat of love toward safe shores.
