Awareness Program on Parkinson’s Disease to be Held in Surat on April 20

Surat, April 11, 2025 — In observance of World Parkinson's Day, which is commemorated globally on April 11 each year, the B.K.P. Parkinson’s Society has announced a special awareness program to be held in Surat on April 20. The event will take place at Jeevan Vikas Trust School in Adajan, starting at 10:00 AM, and will be led by Dr. Hetashree Patel and Dr. Pooja Lohia.

Parkinson’s disease is a serious neurological condition caused by a deficiency of dopamine, a crucial chemical in the brain. The disorder primarily affects physical movement and is marked by symptoms such as tremors in the limbs, difficulty in walking, stiffness in the body, slowness of movement, and speech issues.

Although there is currently no permanent cure for Parkinson’s, treatments such as medication, physiotherapy, and speech therapy can help manage symptoms and improve patients’ quality of life.

As per agency report, the upcoming awareness event aims to educate patients and their caregivers about the disease, provide guidance on appropriate treatment options, and foster greater sensitivity and understanding about Parkinson’s within the community.

The program will feature expert guidance from medical professionals, an interactive Q&A session, and therapy demonstrations designed to offer practical insights for managing the condition. Citizens are encouraged to participate and contribute to the Parkinson’s awareness movement.
