Delhi Court Receives Trial Records Ahead of Tahawwur Rana's Extradition to India in 26/11 Case

New Delhi, April 10 – A Delhi court has received crucial trial records related to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks case ahead of the extradition of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the conspiracy behind the deadly attacks. As per agency report, the records were sent from a Mumbai court following directions issued earlier this year.

Rana, a Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin, is being brought to India on Thursday via a special aircraft after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his final legal appeal to block the extradition. The legal process now paves the way for Indian authorities to pursue prosecution against him for his alleged involvement in the 26/11 attacks.

The records were received by the court of District Judge Vimal Kumar Yadav, in line with orders issued on January 28, instructing the transfer of relevant case documents from Mumbai. These documents had earlier been sent to Mumbai in connection with related cases pending there.

The request to retrieve the records was made by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is handling the prosecution of Rana in Delhi. The agency cited the necessity of these documents as Rana is expected to face trial in the capital.

Rana, aged 64, is a close associate of David Coleman Headley, also known as Daood Gilani, one of the chief conspirators behind the Mumbai attacks that left over 170 people dead and hundreds injured. The attacks were carried out by operatives of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Rana’s extradition marks a significant development in India’s long-standing efforts to bring justice to the victims of the 26/11 attacks and prosecute those responsible on Indian soil.
