64th Successful Organ Donation at Surat Civil Hospital Gives New Life to Three Patients

Surat: The city witnessed yet another milestone in its organ donation efforts as the new Civil Hospital recorded its 64th successful organ donation, providing a renewed lease of life to three patients. The organs were donated by the family of 45-year-old Manoj Kumar Sharma, originally from Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh and a resident of Udhna in Surat.

Manoj Kumar, employed as a supervisor in a local tailoring unit, suffered a serious head injury after slipping in his bathroom on the morning of April 6. He was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance, where neurologists diagnosed him with an intraventricular brain injury. Despite all medical efforts, doctors declared him brain dead on the morning of April 9.

In a moment of profound grief, his wife Ashadevi Sharma and younger brother Roshan Sharma made a courageous and compassionate decision to donate his organs. The decision was made after receiving guidance and emotional support from Iqbal Kadivala, Vice President of the Gujarat Nursing Council, and the team of doctors and organ donation coordinators.

Dilipbhai Deshmukh 'Dada', the founder of Organ Donation Charitable Trust, also played a key role in sensitively motivating the family to make this selfless choice.

Manoj Kumar’s two kidneys and liver were transported to the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) in Ahmedabad, where they will give a new life to three waiting recipients.

This event marks the 64th successful organ donation at Surat Civil Hospital, highlighting the growing awareness and medical commitment toward organ donation in the city. The act stands as a beacon of humanity and reinforces Surat's evolving reputation in life-saving healthcare initiatives.
