INS Surat Replica to Be Installed at Dumas Beach as a Symbol of Naval Pride

Surat: A grand symbol of national pride is soon to adorn the shores of Dumas Beach in Surat, as a 2000-kilogram replica of the Indian Navy’s INS Surat warship is set to be installed. This initiative aims to honor the Indian Navy's strength and commemorate the inclusion of Surat's name in the prestigious naval fleet.

The replica, which will be 30 feet in length and 3 feet in height, is part of the city’s larger Sea-Face Development Project. A specially designed foundation capable of supporting up to 5000 kilograms will be constructed using six reinforced piles. The proposal for this Rs 30 lakh foundation is scheduled for approval in the upcoming Standing Committee meeting on Friday.

The warship replica will be crafted from a combination of steel and fiber composite materials, ensuring durability and resistance to weather. It will be mounted on a sturdy steel base and housed within a protective glass cabinet. To enhance its appearance and longevity, the foundation’s surface will feature a sleek layer of 11mm thick granite and marble, spanning 38 feet in total length.

As per agency report, additional features for the installation include stainless steel chain fencing for safety, a two-foot-wide surrounding pathway, and decorative lighting for nighttime illumination. These enhancements will not only secure the model but also make it an attractive coastal landmark for residents and tourists alike.

The funding for the installation will come from the broader Rs 166.17 crore Sea-Face Capital Project, with the replica’s foundation forming a prominent part of it. Authorities aim for this project to blend the essence of national pride with local urban development, adding an iconic feature to Surat's coastline.

The decision to honor INS Surat at Dumas Beach follows a significant national event where the Indian Navy formally inducted the warship. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who presented the vessel to the Navy. During his address, the Prime Minister praised the people of Surat, highlighting the city’s contribution to the nation and its growing prominence in various sectors.

The installation of the INS Surat replica is expected to become a focal point for civic pride and a tribute to India’s maritime strength, while simultaneously enhancing Surat’s identity as a culturally and strategically significant city.
