Indian National Fatally Stabbed Near Ottawa, Suspect in Custody
Ottawa: An Indian national was fatally stabbed in Rockland, a town near Canada’s capital city Ottawa, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities. The Indian High Commission in Ottawa confirmed the incident and stated that one suspect has been taken into custody.
As per agency report, the High Commission expressed deep sorrow over the incident, which occurred in Rockland, located approximately 40 kilometers east of Ottawa. In a statement posted on social media platform X on Friday, the High Commission said they are in close contact with a local community organization to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
According to a report by CTV News, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident involving a stabbing near Lalonde Street in Rockland shortly before 3 p.m. on Friday. While details surrounding the victim's identity have not yet been disclosed, the police confirmed that a suspect has been apprehended.
Authorities have not specified the charges against the individual in custody, and the investigation remains in its early stages. The OPP noted that there is no threat to public safety at this time and further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
