SGCCI Hosts Seminar on Garment Technology and Productivity to Boost Surat’s Apparel Sector
Surat – The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) organized a seminar on Thursday focusing on “Garment Technology, Quality, and Productivity.” Held at Seminar Hall-A in Sarsana, the event commenced at 5:00 PM and aimed to guide entrepreneurs in Surat towards entering and excelling in the garment industry.
The seminar featured keynote speaker Madhu Kapoor, Managing Director of Apparel and Leather Technics and Trustee of the A.L.T. Training College Foundation in Bengaluru. His insights provided attendees with valuable knowledge on setting up garment factories and enhancing product quality and efficiency.
SGCCI President Vijay Mevawala highlighted the immense potential for growth in Surat’s garment sector, citing the city’s robust textile base, technological support, and available workforce. He urged textile industrialists to consider manufacturing garments locally for export purposes and stressed the need to invest in skill development to address the shortage of skilled labor.
Madhu Kapoor elaborated on various aspects of establishing a garment factory. He emphasized the importance of raw material inspection and fabric evaluation and introduced modern technologies like auto-cutting, which can lead to cost savings of up to seven percent. According to him, maintaining high standards of quality and productivity is crucial for success in the apparel industry.
He noted that after agriculture, the textile and garment sector offers vast employment opportunities. Entrepreneurs can start small with limited machinery and scale operations with experience. The seminar also provided detailed information on essential machinery used in garment manufacturing, including manual laying and cutting machines, automatic and laser cutting systems, sewing, and finishing equipment.
SGCCI Vice President Nikhil Madrasi conducted the seminar, while convenor Ritu Shah introduced the keynote speaker. The interactive session saw active participation from entrepreneurs, who posed numerous questions about starting and managing garment factories. Kapoor addressed each query with practical and insightful responses.
The seminar served as an important platform for Surat’s business community to explore opportunities in the apparel sector and take informed steps toward establishing a successful garment business.
