PGVCL Engineer Assaulted Over Unpaid Electricity Bill in Rajkot; FIR Registered Against Accused
Rajkot, March 24 – A serious incident of assault has been reported in Rajkot’s Gayakvadi Street Number 3, where a resident named Nagesh Singh Chauhan physically assaulted an engineer and staff members of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) over a dispute related to unpaid electricity bills. As per agency report, Chauhan stormed into the chamber of the Deputy Engineer, pushed him, used abusive language, and damaged his mobile phone.
PGVCL’s Deputy Engineer Kalpeshbhai Bhagwanjibhai Kanani (40) has filed a complaint at the Pradhan Nagar Police Station. According to the complaint, assistant linemen Sanatbhai Bhela and Karan Shiyal were conducting disconnection drives in the Gayakvadi area for consumers who had not paid their electricity bills. During the operation, the connection to the house of Vimaladevi Chauhan was disconnected due to four months of unpaid bills.
Soon after, Nagesh Singh Chauhan called the PGVCL staff and claimed he had already paid Rs. 8,000, questioning why the electricity connection had been cut. He then arrived at the PGVCL office and began arguing with cashier Jyotiben Kotak and staff member Vimal Popatani. When asked to clear the remaining dues, Chauhan allegedly threw money at them, used abusive language, and created a ruckus.
The situation escalated when Chauhan forcibly entered the deputy engineer’s cabin, pushed him, hurled insults, and smashed his phone on the ground. He also threatened the engineer, demanding the connection be restored immediately, saying, “Why did you cut my connection? Send your men and reconnect it now, or there will be no peace.”
Following the incident, PGVCL employees lodged a formal complaint, upon which the police registered an FIR against Chauhan. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
