US Trade Official Brendan Lynch to Visit India from March 25 for Bilateral Talks

New Delhi, March 24 – Brendan Lynch, the Assistant United States Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, is set to begin a five-day official visit to India starting March 25. His visit will focus on discussions surrounding trade and customs-related matters between the two nations.

As per agency report, Lynch's visit comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has announced the imposition of retaliatory tariffs on Indian goods, which are scheduled to take effect from April 2. This development has added significance to the upcoming talks, which are expected to address key concerns related to tariffs and market access.

During his stay, Lynch will engage in high-level meetings with several senior Indian officials, including a key session with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The discussions aim to outline a framework for a potential bilateral trade agreement that could resolve longstanding issues affecting trade flows and customs duties.

A US official accompanying Lynch noted that the delegation will be in India from March 25 to 29 as part of an ongoing series of bilateral trade discussions. The official emphasized the importance of continued engagement with the Indian government, expressing optimism about advancing the talks in a constructive, fair, and forward-looking manner.

On Friday, Indian authorities confirmed that discussions with the US are underway to draft a framework agreement that could address various concerns related to duties and access to each other’s markets. The visit is being viewed as a key step in reinforcing the economic partnership between the two countries at a time of evolving global trade dynamics.
