Surat Woman’s Organ Donation Saves Three Lives, Sets an Inspiring Example
Surat witnessed a remarkable act of humanity when the family of 58-year-old Rasila Dhirubhai Vaghasia, a resident of Srinath Dwara Apartment in the Sarathana Jakatnaka area, donated her organs after she was declared brain dead, saving the lives of three individuals.
As per agency report, Rasila Vaghasia experienced sudden chest pain around 9:30 AM on March 18, 2025. Her family immediately rushed her to P.P. Mania Hospital in Kapodra, where she was admitted to the ICU under the care of Dr. Sanket Thakkar. A CT scan revealed a brain blockage, prompting doctors to perform surgery on March 19. However, despite the intervention, she was declared brain dead on March 20.
Following this, the Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation was contacted. The foundation explained to the Vaghasia family the importance and impact of organ donation. Showing great understanding and compassion, her husband Dhirubhai and sons Vijaybhai and Kalpeshbhai agreed to the donation. Support for the noble act came from both the younger and elder members of the family.
Her liver was donated to IKDRC Hospital in Ahmedabad, and both her eyes were accepted by Dr. Praful Shiroya of Lokdrishti Eye Bank in Surat. A green corridor was created between Surat and Ahmedabad to ensure the safe and timely transport of the organs.
This marks the 21st successful organ donation facilitated by the Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation in Surat. Key contributors to this effort included Dr. Sanket Thakkar, Mahesh Raddia, P.M. Gondalia, Vipul Talavia, and Dr. Nilesh Kachhadiya.
The selfless decision made by the Vaghasia family stands as an inspiration to society, reinforcing the life-changing impact of organ donation and the need to continue raising awareness about this noble cause.
