Mumbai, March 23 : Renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai shared a touching moment on social media as actress Neetu Kapoor received a trophy on behalf of her late husband, legendary actor Rishi Kapoor, during the Red Lorry Film Festival held in Mumbai.
The occasion marked the 45th anniversary of the release of the iconic film Karz, directed by Ghai, which is considered a cult classic in Indian cinema. The director took to Instagram to post a photo of Neetu Kapoor holding the trophy, paying tribute to Rishi Kapoor in an emotionally charged moment. As per agency report, Ghai described the event as deeply moving for everyone present, recalling Rishi Kapoor not only as an exceptional actor but also as a remarkable human being.
Karz, released in 1980, was based on the theme of reincarnation and went on to achieve massive success. It was later remade in 2008 with singer-actor Himesh Reshammiya in the lead role. Reflecting on the film’s legacy, Ghai mentioned that he had built the entire script of Karz around a powerful scene where a mother’s soul recognizes her reincarnated son’s spirit — a moment that left everyone but the son, Monty, stunned. He said he never imagined the film would become such a timeless classic still celebrated after 45 years.
Earlier, Ghai had also shared insights into the screenplay development of Karz and posted a behind-the-scenes photo from the film that inspired the story. He credited the emotional intensity of that scene as the foundation for the entire film.
The filmmaker further revealed that his production company, Mukta Arts, is currently looking to collaborate not just with actors but with talented writers and directors who can create impactful cinema for a pan-Indian audience. He expressed enthusiasm about bringing fresh, innovative projects to the screen once again.
The special screening of Karz at the Red Lorry Film Festival was held on March 21 at 11:30 AM at PVR BKC, Bandra, Mumbai, offering fans a nostalgic glimpse into one of Indian cinema’s most memorable stories.
