Surat : Seven Nominations Rejected in SDCA Elections; Final Candidate List on March 24
Surat – The upcoming elections of the Surat District Cricket Association (SDCA) have intensified leading to heightened activity and interest. The election process recently saw a moment of controversy when candidate Nehal Gandhi submitted a written complaint to the SDCA Election Commissioner, accusing current committee member Mayank Desai of issuing threats and pressuring him to withdraw his nomination. However, on Friday, Gandhi officially retracted his complaint, claiming that Desai had merely been joking.
Following the initial complaint, Chief Election Commissioner R. G. Shah had scheduled a hearing to address the matter by summoning both parties. With Gandhi’s withdrawal of the allegation, the matter was considered closed and no further action was taken.
Meanwhile, the SDCA election process, which began on March 13, continues to proceed with great enthusiasm. During the scrutiny of nomination forms, 108 nominations were received by March 20. Of these, 101 were deemed valid, while seven were rejected.
The decisions regarding the seven rejected nominations were upheld on March 21 by appellate officer Jyotindra Gajivala after a formal hearing.
This year’s SDCA election has become notably competitive, with several influential figures vying for control of the cricket body. The atmosphere remains charged, with significant strategic maneuvering taking place among the candidates.
Candidates may withdraw their nominations until the afternoon of March 24, after which the final list of eligible candidates will be officially published.
