BHEL Secures Rs 7,500 Crore Contract for 800 MW Thermal Power Unit in Gujarat

New Delhi, March 21 – Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a public sector enterprise, has been awarded a major contract worth Rs 7,500 crore for setting up an 800 MW unit at the Ukai Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in Gujarat.

As per agency report, the contract has been awarded by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) under an international competitive bidding process. The project will be developed on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis at the Ukai site located in the Tapi district of Gujarat.

The newly awarded unit, known as Unit-7, is expected to commence commercial operations within a timeframe of 54 months from the date of the contract. The project is part of Gujarat's ongoing efforts to expand its energy infrastructure and meet growing electricity demands through high-efficiency thermal power generation.

BHEL’s engagement in the Ukai Supercritical Thermal Power Plant project marks another significant step in strengthening the country’s energy sector, particularly through the deployment of advanced supercritical technology aimed at improving power generation efficiency and reducing emissions.
