Traffic Congestion in Surat’s APMC Market Area Prompts Authorities to Take Action
Surat: The ongoing construction of a flyover bridge in the APMC Market area has led to persistent traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. In response to the escalating problem, senior traffic police officials and administrative officers from Varachha Zone-A conducted an inspection today to discuss possible solutions.
As per agency report, the stretch from APMC Market to Sahara Darwaja has been experiencing severe traffic gridlocks, with vehicles often stuck for hours. The situation becomes more challenging during summer when temperatures soar above 40 degrees Celsius, making it increasingly difficult for commuters. The issue is further aggravated by the unregulated parking of heavy vehicles, lorries, and trucks, contributing to the overall congestion.
The inspection was led by DCP Anita Vanani, ACP Vinod Gamit, and key officials from the traffic department, including PI officers, Varachha Zone head R.B., agricultural officers, and executive engineer Karan Bhavsar. They conducted a thorough study of roads extending from the I Mata Flyover Bridge to APMC Market and New Bombay Market, leading to the implementation of several crucial measures to ease traffic flow.
Authorities have declared the area from I-Mata Flyover Bridge to APMC Market as a no-parking zone, with strict enforcement measures planned against illegal parking. A proposal has also been drafted to allow two-wheeler vehicles to use the BRTS corridor, providing them a faster route and reducing congestion on the main road. Additionally, the route leading to Khadi Bridge near Intercity Society has been altered to ease the pressure on APMC Road.
Traffic personnel have been instructed to focus on managing congestion, especially during peak hours. With the implementation of a no-parking zone, traffic diversions, and allowing two-wheelers on the BRTS route, authorities expect a significant reduction in congestion. These measures are part of a broader effort to streamline traffic control and enhance commuting conditions in the APMC Market area.
