SGCCI Organizes Seminar on Fire Safety and Risk Mitigation for Textile Traders

Surat, March 11 – In response to the recent devastating fire at Shivshakti Textile Market on Ring Road, which caused losses worth crores to traders, the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) organized a seminar on "Fire Safety and Risk Mitigation" for textile traders and entrepreneurs. The event aimed to raise awareness about fire safety measures and encourage preventive actions to minimize risks in commercial establishments.

As per report, SGCCI President Vijay Mevawala welcomed the attending traders and emphasized that the tragic incident at Shivshakti Market served as a wake-up call for the entire business community. He stressed the need for proactive measures to prevent such disasters in the future.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Prakash Hedau addressed the attendees, advising them to install high-quality ABC-type fire extinguishers in their shops, ensure proper ventilation, and adhere to standard building design regulations. He also warned against using highly flammable decorative materials and recommended consulting certified safety advisors for building security enhancements.

Safety expert L.K. Dungarani highlighted the importance of installing Electrical Leakage Circuit Breakers (ELCB) and Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB) in every shop. He urged traders to conduct regular electrical audits, use ISI-marked cables, and install automatic sprinkler systems. He also emphasized that having high-quality fire extinguishers in commercial spaces is essential for controlling fires at an early stage.

The seminar was attended by SGCCI Vice President Nikhil Madrasi, Treasurer Mrinal Shukla, and several entrepreneurs and traders. This initiative aimed to educate the trading community on fire safety measures and help prevent similar incidents in the future.
