Surat, India – A teenage girl from the Godadara area of Surat was blackmailed by a young man she befriended on Instagram, leading to the theft of ₹50,000 from her own home. The girl's mother intervened when the youth arrived to demand more money, ultimately resulting in the arrest of the young man and his brother.
The girl, a class 8 student, was using her mother's phone to access Instagram, where she came into contact with the young man. Their online friendship quickly developed, with the two interacting daily on the platform. One day, the youth called the girl to meet in person, during which they shared a kiss. The young man captured a photo of the intimate moment and used it to blackmail the girl, threatening to make the image go viral.
Fearing the potential consequences of her photo going viral, the girl stole ₹50,000 from her home to meet the young man's demands. However, the extortion did not stop there. When the youth came to the girl's house to ask for more money, her mother became aware of the situation and chased him away. The young man's brother then became involved, verbally abusing the girl's family.
The girl's relatives filed a complaint against the young man and his brother, leading to their arrest. The police are currently taking further action in the case.
