Delhi Woman Battling Uterine Cancer Gives Birth to Healthy Baby
A 32-year-old woman diagnosed with advanced-stage uterine cancer successfully gave birth to a healthy baby while undergoing life-saving treatment, as per agency reports. The remarkable medical achievement was confirmed by Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in an official statement.
The case was managed by a team of specialist doctors, including surgical oncologist Dr. Deepika Gupta. The woman, who had previously suffered a miscarriage, was under close medical supervision throughout her pregnancy. During routine examinations, doctors detected large tumors in both her ovaries. Further MRI scans revealed that she was in the third stage of uterine cancer. Given the complexity of the situation, the medical team devised a treatment plan to ensure both maternal health and fetal development.
To accelerate the baby’s lung development, the mother was first administered steroid therapy. This was followed by three sessions of neoadjuvant chemotherapy to control the cancer, allowing the fetus more time to grow. Once chemotherapy was completed, the woman underwent a combined surgical procedure involving a cesarean section for childbirth along with initial debulking surgery to remove as much of the cancerous tumor as possible.
The operation was a success, resulting in the birth of a healthy baby while effectively removing the cancerous growths. The mother was placed under intensive care following the surgery and, within three weeks, was stable enough to care for her newborn.
Although the woman is now recovering well, doctors have advised her to continue chemotherapy and undergo regular medical monitoring to track her health progress. The case highlights the extraordinary coordination between oncologists and obstetricians in managing complex pregnancies involving cancer treatment.
